I Am The Tree

When I wrote this passage, it was a statement of my determination to fight against the cancer that I then, and now, have. It has become more - the tree is my faith, and no matter what comes against it, it will not break.

I am the tree.

Standing tall and proud, never to surrender,

  "It" is the wind that tests and looks to take control.

        Through the days it will test me, blowing as it will;

            Yet when the calm returns, I will still remain.

I am rooted to the Earth,

    Grounded to all the is near, loved by that which binds me;

        The wind may try those many times to dislodge me, blowing with all its fury,

                    But it will never drive me from my life.

The wind may blow and I will bend, but I will never break;

         I will be true and strong, and bend when needed and remain firm and strong when I can;

                    The wind cannot break my spirit, or drive hope from my soul.

At times I will lose branches and leaves;

         setbacks along the way,

  Blown and taken by that which blows;

    Yet the springtime will come again,

        I will be reborn in the aftermath of the howling gales that I may face,

            I will grow, gloriously upward towards the sun, the light upon my branches.

The wind will test all that for which I stand,

    And I will gain wisdom and strength having faced it;

        Stronger in spirit, stronger in body, it has made me what I am;

            It blows with all its might, yet I am stronger in its passing.

                                                I am the tree.
